Will XP Programs Run in Windows 7?
Posted by: admin : Category: Antivirus Program
http://go.tagjag.com/pcpitstop – http://twitter.com/chrispirillo – I love seeking solutions for people. That’s kind of what got me started in this whole Internet thing, way back in about 1996. I also enjoy answering questions when I can, especially from our sister community over at PC PitStop! Mike is a CAD designer, and is wondering if his XP software will install and run on Windows 7. http://chris.pirillo.com – http://geeks.pirillo.com – http://lockergnome.net

For those people …
For those people who use XP programs and they don’t work fine on Windows 7, Just right click the program after installing and select “Run as Administrator” > “Always”
Then select either service pack 1, or 2, 3′s too recent to run anything dated back three or so years.

> Future of …
> Future of operating systems is virtualization
Future of operating systems is, for some sad people, whatever Microsoft decides it is, for better or for worse.
There is nothing to be gained with virtualizing old Operating Systems.
Nothing.
It’s a dirty hackjob imposed by proprietary software and lack of standards.
If it were Free Software, you’d just take the source and compile on your binary incompatible new OS.
It doesn’t even need to be Free Software; nonfree Open Source would suffice.

Virtualization has been around for a long time, there’s nothing new about it.
If you’re dependent on XP apps and want to upgrade to a better OS, then just install Ubuntu and virtualize XP there.
Or better yet, try using Wine, and if that works skip using Windows altogether.

The problem is that …
The problem is that XP Mode is only for Windows 7 Professional and better, so generally the people who bought new PCs from the store get Home Premium so that leaves out a lot of people.
“I’ll need to update my laptop soon to a PC more appropriate for home use”
If he wants that then he should just stay with Windows XP.

What 9 out of 10 people fail to mention in videos about Windows XP Mode is that you can run a program in XP Mode without first booting into the machine.
